Teen pleads guilty to assault on elderly couple

A teenager accused of attacking an elderly couple in their Waikanae home in December has pleaded guilty to all the charges he faced.

Hohepa Wallace, who turned 18 earlier this week, pleaded guilty in the Porirua District Court today to two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two of burglary.

The couirt heard he talked his way into the home of Dennis and Eileen Phillips on 8 December last year and stole Mr Phillips's wallet.

Later that night he broke into the house, where Mrs Phillips found him in the kitchen.

Wallace assaulted her, causing two cuts to her head and brain swelling and then attacked Mr Phillips in his bed, causing facial fractures and severe bruising.

He will be sentenced in Wellington next month.
