A suspicious package left near a Transpower substation in the central Christchurch suburb of Addington has caused a brief scare.
Police said army bomb disposal experts determined the package was not a threat.
They said they were called to Princess Street, near Whiteleigh Avenue, at 11.30am today and cordons were established in the area, temporarily blocking off several streets.
The cordons have now been removed.
