Taranaki police have arrested the 28-year-old driver of a distinctive camouflage-painted car, which rammed into a police patrol vehicle last night.

Sergeant Andrew Stilton said police were called to Scott Street in Hawera at about 7.30pm after members of the public reported a Nissan Terrano doing donuts in the street.

When police arrived, they chased the car for about 100 metres before it stopped and reversed into a patrol vehicle, disabling it.

No one was injured in the incident.

Sergeant Stilton said, following enquiries today, police located the driver at a family member's address in Hawera.

The man will appear in the Hawera District Court next Tuesday, where he will face charges including aggravated assault and failing to ascertain injury.
