A severe weather warning has been issued for Westland and Taranaki.
MetService said a strong northerly wind was expected to bring heavy rain to the ranges of Westland through to tomorrow night and to Mount Taranaki for a period until early Sunday morning.
It said the rain would be at its heaviest around the ranges of Westland, with200-250mm likely.
MetService was warning people to look out for rapidly rising rivers and streams, and for drivers to watch out for surface flooding and slips.
