The father of a Taiwanese man killed while riding his bicycle in Christchurch is pleading with drivers to consider others on the road.

Ming-Chih Hsieh, who was 33, died on Monday in a collision with a truck in the suburb of Hornby.

His family arrived in Christchurch on Tuesday, and a funeral was held this morning.

Mr Hsieh, a competition triathlete and electrical engineer, had recently been living in the city while making cycle trips around the country.

His father, Fu-Tsai Hsieh, said he hoped his son's death would not have been in vain, and that one day there would be a safer environment for cyclists travelling around New Zealand enjoying all the country has to offer.
