Building firm fined over scaffolding

An Auckland building company has been fined $15,000 for letting workers install a roof using incomplete scaffolding.

Eden Homes Development was fined in the North Shore District Court after two of its employees were seen installing a roof on a home in Glenfield without adequate edge-protection to prevent falls.

WorkSafe New Zealand chief investigator Keith Stewart said it was good luck rather than good management that no-one was hurt.

Scaffolding on the home was arranged by the homeowner, but Mr Stewart says Eden Homes Development was prosecuted because it should have ensured the scaffolding was complete before starting work.
