Large building firm Buildtech, who made five migrant workers redundant in Christchurch recently, says the staff are being supported financially and socially.

Five Filipino men were made redundant over the past month and two other employee's contracts were not extended beyond the 90-day trial period.

Buildtech director Israel Cooper said four of the five men have had other job offers, while the two who did not have their contacts extended now have other jobs.

Mr Cooper said different skills are now required for the kind of work the company is undertaking in the earthquake-hit city.

The men have been offered four weeks of free accommodation, he said.
