Police have arrested a man for the sexual assault of an elderly woman in Hastings.
The 87-year-old was attacked in her Ikanui Road home on 7 November.
A 27-year-old man was arrested on Friday and appeared in the Hastings District Court on charges of burglary, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and sexual assault.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange says a combined effort between police and the community led to the arrest.
Mr de Lange says it was a particularly nasty crime and the arrest will bring some reassurance to the woman and her family.
The man was given name supression and remanded in custody to appear in court again next Tuesday.
