Police probe death of elderly couple

4:05 pm on 18 October 2013

Police say it could be a couple of days before the results of post mortems are known following the deaths of an elderly couple in a Napier motel.

The Chinese couple, aged 73 and 74, have lived in Auckland for many years and were on a travelling holiday around New Zealand with their adult son who lives in Hong Kong and his wife.

The couple were found dead at the Deco City Motor Lodge on Wednesday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange says there is no indication at this stage how the couple died and police are waiting for the results of the post mortems.

Mr de Lange says until police get further information, including toxicology test results, it is unclear what direction the investigation will take.

The couple's names are not being released until all family have been notified.
