Police have charged a 19-year-old Taumarunui man after an armed offenders squad turn out in the town on Sunday.
He has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and other serious charges are pending.
He is due to appear in the Taumarunui District Court on Monday.
People in some parts of the town were told to stay indoors and keep their heads down while the police sought the man after reports of gunshots and threats.
Inspector Steve Mastrovich said police were talking to witnesses to piece together what happened between Raurimu, Whakahoro, and Taumarunui in the early hours of the morning up until mid-morning on Sunday.
They have confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
