Auckland Transport chair wants more focus on customers

The new chair of Auckland's transport agency, Lester Levy, wants the organisation to become more open and more focused on the public it serves.

Auckland Transport does the lion's share of the council's work, dealing with roads, footpaths and public transport.

It has been criticised for being too closed in the way it works, and Dr Levy says making its monthly board meetings more public is on his agenda.

Dr Levy says the council-owned Auckland Transport is a good organisation, but can be improved.

He says key areas will be improving productivity at Auckland Transport, improving customer experience and attracting funding for key projects.

Unlike his media-shy predecessor Mark Ford, Dr Levy says he will be more of a voice for transport - helping promote the long-term goals.
