Auckland Mayor Len Brown hopes his plan for the region will double the usage of public transport over the next 10 years.
Seventy million trips were made on public transport trips in Auckland last year.
Under the Auckland Plan, the aim is to double that figure by 2022. The plan outlines how to deal with population growth of up to one million extra people over the next 30 years.
Mr Brown says Auckland's highest priority transport projects are at the forefront of the plan. They include a city rail link, an east-west link and an additional Waitemata harbour crossing.
The city rail link alone is expected to cost $2.86 billion and Auckland Council wants central Government to cover about half the cost.
