ACT will not stand a candidate in New Plymouth in this year's election in order to give National a better chance of holding the seat.
National MP Jonathan Young, who has a majority of 105, is being challenged by Labour candidate Andrew Little of the CTU and EPMU.
The ACT candidate won 455 votes in New Plymouth at the last election.
Discussions have taken place about other marginal seats in light of a deal between ACT and National to help ACT candidate John Banks win Epsom.
Party leader Don Brash says there have been informal approaches from people in the National Party about other seats, but ACT does not intend to with-hold candidates from any electorates other than New Plymouth.
