Police to assess file on Labour pamphlet

10:59 pm on 12 July 2011

Police have received a file from the Electoral Commission about a Labour Party pamphlet and will investigate whether electoral laws have been broken.

The commission has advised the Labour Party that the Stop Asset Sales flyer breached the Electoral Act because it did not include a formal statement saying who it had been authorised by.

Labour has withdrawn the pamphlet from circulation, along with another similar publication.

In a statement, police say the file will be assessed to establish the validity of the complaint and determine how to proceed.
