New ACT Party leader Don Brash has prematurely announced that the 2025 Taskforce he used to head will be scrapped.
Prime Minister John Key said some weeks ago that the taskforce, charged with exploring ways to close the economic gap with Australia, was not great value for money.
Dr Brash held a news conference in Wellington on Tuesday to announce the leadership and ministerial arrangements for his caucus.
He said he could not continue to head the taskforce and went on to say that he had had a phone call before he took over the leadership to tell him it was scrapped.
Former ACT Party leader Rodney Hide will retain his ministerial roles and retire from politics at the election in November.
