Hone Harawira's electorate officials say local members want him to stay in the Maori Party, but they need more time before putting that case to the full party.
Te Tai Tokerau officials met on Sunday to discuss their response to a complaint by Te Ururoa Flavell MP against Mr Harawira because he criticised the party in a newspaper column.
Electorate chair Lisa McNabb says the committee wants Mr Harawira to continue to represent the region with vigour and courage, and the members agree.
But she says there are number of issues the committee still needs to clarify before a formal response is made to the rest of the party.
