The Green Party has launched a 12 Days of Christmas campaign, which asks New Zealanders to guarantee that children have at least the basic necessities this holiday season.
Co-leader Metiria Turei says the situation for many children is bleak.
She says, at the least, young New Zealanders should be warm, fed, safe from violence and have the opportunity to become educated.
Ms Turei says the Greens will be highlighting different social issues in the days leading up to Christmas.
