Farmers challenge Labour foreign ownership policy

Federated Farmers has taken issue with Labour on its new foreign land ownership policy.

Party leader Phil Goff has given notice that Labour would impose strict controls over foreign ownership of land if it formed the next Government, effectively ending the sale of farm land to overseas investors and restricting foreign ownership of strategic infrastructure.

But Federated Farmers president Don Nicolson, sees that as a threat to basic property rights.

"We're heading into a different paradigm," he said.
