Minister to be briefed on movie dispute

6:04 am on 2 October 2010

Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee expects to be briefed this weekend on a dispute which could see filming of The Hobbit shifted from New Zealand.

Actors Equity wants a collective bargaining agreement for performers, and has asked union members worldwide to reject work on the movie until one is secured.

Mr Brownlee says he expects to be briefed by officials over the weekend.

He says he is open to a meeting with Actors Equity but none is currently scheduled.

Sir Peter Jackson has dismissed a request to meet Actors Equity and says the union should instead meet the Screen Production and Development Association.
