Submissions on the Food Bill, which had its first reading in Parliament in late July, close on Thursday with the Primary Production Select Committee.
The bill is aimed at providing a risk-based regulatory regime that manages food safety issues, improves business certainty and minimises compliance costs.
If passed into law, it would replace the Food Act of 1981.
Among the submitters is Horticulture New Zealand, which is concerned that compliance costs to growers will increase significantly.
Chief executive Peter Silcock is disappointed that none of the recommendations the organisation made to the Food Safety Authority earlier in the year have been included in the bill.
Mr Silcock says Horticulture New Zealand expects to appear before the select committee, which could start considering submissions next week.
