A review of the roles of the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism New Zealand has recommended keeping the two organisations separate.
The review concludes however that there could be better co-ordination between the agencies and that they should seek tourism industry support to help pay for some activities, like surveys.
Tourism Minister John Key says a recommendation that the Tourism Ministry lose its semi-autonomous status within the Economic Development Ministry will be taken up.
He says that will ensure better integration of the ministries' functions, including research and monitoring.
