The Government says it wants to simplify the paper-heavy tax system and make it easier for people to manage their tax affairs online.
Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says proposed changes will enable people to manage their own tax and social assistance entitlements, such as Working for Families, by using a secure area on Inland Revenue's website.
He says the move towards electronic technologies will eventually require all businesses to move to electronic filing.
Taxpayers, businesses and software developers who want to give Inland Revenue their views will be able to do so through an online forum on the website.
