Labour says Bennett and her ministry overly zealous

The Labour Party has accused Social Development and Employment Minister Paula Bennett - and her ministry - of having an over-zealous approach to beneficiaries.

Labour deputy leader Annette King questioned Ms Bennett in Parliament on Thursday about Work and Income's attempts to get a 78-year-old beneficiary into work.

Ms Bennett replied the ministry has a big job to do and does not always get things right.

Ms King also drew attention to the concerns of a Hamilton man who was asked by Work and Income for information about his beneficiary neighbour.

She says Peter Reidy told Labour that was an un-Kiwi thing to do, and reminiscent of Nazi Germany.
