The Maori Council is urging people to have their say on its future.
Waatea News reports submissions close on Friday for an inquiry by the Maori Affairs Select Committee into the operation of the 1962 Maori Community Development Act, which provides the legal framework for the council and the Maori wardens.
While many iwi-centric organisations have emerged in recent years, Maori Council deputy chair Jim Nichols says there's still a need for a pan-Maori voice on national issues.
