Support among Maori voters for Labour and the Maori Party has evened out, a new political poll shows.
The Te Karere-Digipoll of 1002 Maori voters from the Maori and general electoral rolls was conducted between 6-27 January and has a margin of error of 3.1%.
The poll has 38% of Maori voters giving their party vote to the Maori Party, down 10% on the same poll in November last year.
Labour is also on 38% support for the party vote, up from 26% in the November poll.
However, Labour leader Phil Goff does not fare well in specific questions about his leadership.
Eighteen percent of respondents thought Mr Goff provided good leadership on Maori issues, compared with 47% for National Party leader and Prime Minister John Key.
Mr Key ranked highest as preferred Prime Minister on 31%, with Mr Goff on 5%.
Mr Key says the poll confirms that many Maori support National's relationship with the Maori Party, while Mr Goff acknowledges he has a lot of work to do to win more support from Maori voters.
