Police should ignore MP helmet case - PM

11:41 am on 8 December 2009

Prime Minister John Key says he does not believe anything should happen to MP Hone Harawira for riding a motorbike on Parliament's forecourt without a helmet.

Police are investigating two complaints against Mr Harawira after the incident was shown on television.

Mr Key says he believes the police should have ignored a complaint against National MP Shane Adern for driving a tractor up the steps of Parliament, and he does not see anything different in this case.

Police in Wellington say part of their investigation will be to determine whether Parliament's forecourt can be considered a road.
