The Labour Party is to present a petition with 15,000 signatures to Parliament next week, calling on the government do more to bridge the pay gap between New Zealand men and women.
Equity campaigners say the average 12% gap arises mainly from sex discrimination.
Labour women's affairs spokesperson Sue Moroney is disappointed by the Government's decision to close a research unit and to end two investigations into lowly paid sectors.
She hopes the petition will shame the Government into more action.
The Government has allocated $2 million over four years for the Ministry of Women's Affairs to do further work on the pay gap.
Minister of Women's Affairs Pansy Wong declined to comment.
More about the gender pay gap can be heard on Insight after 8am on Radio New Zealand National on Sunday.
