Prime Minister John Key says the Government remains committed to a Treaty relationship.
His comment follows the Cabinet's announcement on Monday that there will be no dedicated Maori seats on the new Auckland super-city council.
The Maori Party says it strongly disagrees with the decision and will try to introduce seats through an amendment when the legislation is before Parliament.
Mr Key says the Cabinet's decision does not mean the Government is not committed to a relationship with Maori.
He says the National Party has no intention of holding a conscience vote on the issue of Maori seats.
