The Government is to delay the dates when forest owners have to report 2008 deforestation under the emissions trading legislation.
Under the current legislation foresters had to report 2008 deforestation by the end of January this year, and apply for exemptions for small forest blocks by the end of June.
But the Government has introduced a bill amending the timing of the scheme relating to forestry.
Climate Change Minister Nick Smith says the current dates are unreasonable given the current select-committee review of the scheme and lack of public awareness of the requirements.
Mr Smith says National has consulted with other parties and has the support to pass the bill through all stages by the end of June.
