Health officials doing all they can on flu alert: PM

12:00 pm on 28 April 2009

Prime Minister John Key does not think New Zealand needs to follow the World Health Organisation and upgrade its response to the swine flu alert.

The W-H-O has increased its level of influenza alert from phase 3 to 4, which means the likelihood of a pandemic has increased, but is not inevitable.

Mr Key says the change in alert has been noted, but it does not mean New Zealand should increase its own response.

He says a good plan is in place and he is confident health officials are doing everything they can.

Labour leader Phil Goff also says he's satisfied with the response from health officials.

He says it's good that contingency plans and Tamiflu stocks were already in place.
