Re-instatement of funding urged for Bioethics Council

7:36 am on 18 March 2009

The Dean of the Anglican Cathedral in Auckland says the Government should reverse its decision to cut funding for the Bioethics Council.

Ross Bay has written to Environment Minister Nick Smith, asking him to either continue the council's funding, or come up with a better alternative.

Dean Bay says technology such as pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in embryos is complex and must be seriously discussed.

He says technology is moving so fast that just a few years remain for scientists and laypeople to decide its direction and limits with adequate clarity and knowledge.
