Former Treaty Settlements Minister for the previous National government, Sir Douglas Graham, has been appointed a facilitator for the Tamaki-Makaurau claim.
Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Christopher Finlayson says Sir Douglas was instrumental in starting progress towards resolving grievances in the 1990s.
His achievements include the Waikato-Tainui settlement and the Ngai Tahu settlement.
Sir Douglas was an MP for 15 years before stepping down in 1999.
