Foreign Affairs Minister to meet Australian counterpart

7:12 am on 20 January 2009

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully travels to Perth on Wednesday to meet his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith.

It will be the third time the men have met since the November election, but the first of their regular six-monthly meetings.

Fiji will be a major focus of discussion, as both Mr Smith and Mr McCully plan travel to Port Moresby next week for the Pacific Forum leaders meeting.

Mr McCully said they will also discuss the military, aid and diplomatic investments in Afghanistan and East Timor.

He said the fragile ceasefire in Gaza is also likely to come up, as well as United Nations issues.
