NZ-US trade a challenge - incoming Govt

7:10 am on 18 November 2008

New Zealand's relationship with the United States is seen as a challenge by the incoming Government.

Murray McCully, who is to be Minister of Foreign Affairs, says a change in the American administration means he does not know how trade will be developed.

Mr McCully told Morning Report that National's international policy won't be vastly different to Labour's stance.

He said New Zealand can't afford to have everything changing every time the Government changes.

He said National had worked in Opposition to try to ensure that other nations can continue to deal with New Zealand with some degree of certainty.

Mr McCully also said he will review how the foreign aid budget is spent.
