Thousands of young voters not enrolled

The Electoral Commission says thousands of young people in South Auckland will miss out on voting in the general election unless they enrol now.

Latest enrolment figures show more than 26,000 people under the age of 30 still have not registered to vote in Auckland's eight southern electorates.

The registrar of electors, Kenneth Lam, said they need to enrol now if they want to have a voice on 20 September.

The electorates are: Mangere, Manurewa, Manukau East, Maungakiekie, Papakura, Botany, Pakuranga and Tamaki.
