The Canterbury Regional Council has closed the submission period.

The Greens made email submissions on behalf of residents following phone conversations.

Co-leader Metiria Turei said today that mistakes were made in the process and the party apologised to the people involved in April.

"We are confident that we have fixed our systems. We're confident that we were doing the right thing in providing those submissions as we told people that we would. So I think it's a bit of a storm in a tea cup."

Ms Turei said the party was not trying to subvert the course of democracy and the system has been fixed so emails are not automatically generated.
