The National Party's education spokesperson, Hekia Parata, faced a tough crowd at a pre-election panel discussion in Wellington on Tuesday night.
She told an audience of about a hundred people that children's achievement has improved under the National-led government.
But many of those attending the meeting organised by the teacher unions, the PPTA and the NZEI, were teachers unhappy with government policies.
They saved their biggest cheers for representatives of other parties, including Labour, Green and New Zealand First, who promised to abolish National Party policies.
