The feud between New Zealand First leader Winston Peters and his former MP spilled over with an exchange in Parliament on Tuesday.

It occurred when Mr Peters objected to Brendan Horan trying to table New Zealand First board minutes from last year.

"This House should not be used in this way, particularly by Jimmy Savile of New Zealand politics."

The late Jimmy Savile is a disgraced former BBC television presenter.

Mr Horan objected to Mr Peters' comments, saying he found them disgusting.

After being ordered by the Speaker, Mr Peters withdrew the comment and apologised.
