Labour list MP Darien Fenton will retire from Parliament at the September election.
Ms Fenton, an MP for nine years, has long been active in the union movement, and said she intended to return to the coalface after she left Parliament.
Labour Party leader David Cunliffe said Ms Fenton had made a substantial contribution during her time in Parliament, particularly in the area of industrial relations.
