Labour names two for Maori seat

5:56 pm on 5 May 2014

The Labour Party has confirmed it has two nominations for the Tamaki Makaurau seat for this year's general election.

Secondary school teacher Will Flavell and former TVNZ presenter Shane Taurima are both seeking to contest the seat.

The deadline for nominations for the Maori electorate was extended due to an investigation by TVNZ into the actions of Mr Taurima.

He resigned as general manager of the Maori and Pacific Unit in February when it was revealed some staff had used TVNZ offices to host Labour Party meetings. A report into the matter is expected this week.

Radio New Zealand understands Labour will decide on the candidate once that report has been released.
