Local Government New Zealand says it is disappointed it was not informed about a meeting of mayors to discuss concerns about super cities.

Lower Hutt mayor Ray Wallace has organised the conference in Taupo to be held on Monday because he is worried the Local Government Commission has already made up its mind about future council amalgamations.

Local Government Minister Paula Bennett was invited but has declined to attend.

She told the president of Local Government New Zealand, Lawrence Yule, about the conference, and he says he is disappointed he found out that way.

He says it was embarrassing for him, and if mayors want to raise an issue, they should do so through their national organisation.
