A parliamentary select committee has rejected complaints that pilots are being charged too much by the Civil Aviation Authority.
In November 2012, the authority raised its administration charge for aviation licences from $56 to $230. It also introduced a fee of $313 dollar for lodging an application for a medical examination, on top of the cost of the examination itself.
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Airline Pilots Association, Aviation New Zealand and many individual pilots have argued the fee hike was excessive and unfair.
The Regulation Review Committee has agreed it was large, but says that does not make it inappropriate.
It says the safety and security of aviation might have been impaired had the fee not been adjusted.
