John Key has admitted speaking with controversial right-wing blogger Cameron Slater, every so often.

The Prime Minister revealed the fact while being questioned about how he knew that the New Zealand First leader, Winston Peters, had visited internet businessman Kim Dotcom's mansion three times.

Mr Peters has accused the Prime Minister of having the Government's spies keep tabs on him, but Mr Key has categorically denied that.

He refused to say whether Mr Slater was his source, but admitted briefly discussing Mr Dotcom with the blogger this week.

But Mr Key said he talks to lots of bloggers and does not agree with everything that Mr Slater writes on his website, Whale Oil. Cameron Slater was criticised earlier this year for describing a man who died in Greymouth as feral.
