Labour says it could have the support needed to progress a bill that would lower the blood alcohol level for driving.
The bill, in the name of Iain Lees-Galloway MP, proposes to cut the legal limit from 80mg of alcohol per hundred millilitres of blood, to 50mg.
A similar Labour proposal last year failed by one vote, when National, ACT and United Future all opposed it.
Mr Lees-Galloway says United Future leader Peter Dunne has confirmed he will support the bill through all its stages.
He says there is a really good chance the bill will progress now and could even encourage the Government to reconsider its position.
The Government has asked for more research to be done, before deciding.
