The Government may soon make rest home audits available to the public.
A report which came out on Thursday 11 July by Consumer New Zealand found that of the 634 homes audited since 2007, just 114 met all of the criteria of the Ministry of Health's core standards.
The Ministry currently publishes summaries of the audits on its website.
Associate Minister of Health Jo Goodhew says she has asked the Ministry of Health to look at ways to make the information more readily available.
Ms Goodhew says she does not expect legislation will need to be changed to make this happen, but any proposal would require consultation with DHBs and the aged care sector.
However, the Aged Care Association says publishing full rest home audit reports online is not necessary, because they are too difficult to understand.
Association chief executive Martin Taylor says the sector is already one of the most accountable and transparent, and uploading full audit reports is not necessary.
Ministry officials are to report back with a decision by the end August.
