Veteran Labour Party MP Lianne Dalziel says she is willing to quit Parliament to run for the Christchurch mayoralty, but has not yet made a definite decision to do so.
Ms Dalziel entered Parliament in 1990 and has been the MP for Christchurch East since 1999.
Earlier this year, she ruled out a tilt at the mayoralty.
However, Ms Dalziel says she has had a rethink after being approached by many people concerned at the state of the Christchurch City Council and who want to see it become more engaged with locals and the Government.
Ms Dalziel says she will make a call within the next month on whether to run for mayor.
The current mayor is Bob Parker.
