Minister rejects claims of exodus at IRD

The Revenue Minister is rejecting Labour Party claims of a staff exodus at Inland Revenue.

The Labour Party has released figures it says show IRD staff turnover was at 33.7% in Wellington in the past year, 28.4% in Auckland and 24.7% in Palmerston North.

Labour's revenue spokesperson David Clark says the department is in crisis mode and the departures show morale has hit rock bottom.

But Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says Dr Clark has his numbers mixed up and is comparing call centre turnover rates with those for the overall organisation.

Mr Dunne says IRD's overall redundancy rate of 12% is perfectly normal.
