Farmers damaging New Zealand's clean reputation: minister

10:11 am on 6 May 2009

Agriculture Minister David Carter says farmers who ignore anti-pollution measures are damaging New Zealand's reputation.

He told Morning Report the farming sector is not doing enough to protect water use and quality and says the Government may need to step in.

Mr Carter said many farmers have made big strides in reducing pollution. But a small number have not and they're ruining the country's clean reputation.

He said money will be set aside in the Budget to help combat pollution.
