More apprenticeships under consideration

5:40 am on 2 August 2012

The Government is looking at extending the modern apprenticeship scheme to all workers, regardless of age.

Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce is proposing a number of changes he says are aimed at producing a workforce with more skills and more qualifications.

At present, the modern apprenticeship scheme applies only to 16 to 21 year olds.

The changes form a consultation document which also includes boosting expectations for the performance of industry training organisations, and making it easier for trainees to move between the workplace and training providers.
