Minister "doesn't have enough work to do" - Labour

Labour says a review is to be held of the coroners system because the Courts Minister does not have enough work to do in his portfolio.

The existing Coroners Act was brought into force in 2006, when Labour was in Government.

But Courts Minister Chester Borrows says a review is timely to try to streamline the death investigation process for bereaved families.

Labour says there is no evidence the new system is not working well.

Justice spokesperson Charles Chauvel says the Government would be better off turning its attention to the urgent problem of courts' efficiency.
